Biography:
Dr. Joshua J. Frye is a Professor of Communication at Cal Poly Humboldt. He has taught, conducted research, volunteered, and studied in over 35 countries in Asia, Latin America, the South Pacific, and Europe. The overarching focus of his research is on strategic [environmental and political] communication, ideological criticism, public education, and sustainable community development. Dr. Frye has published over 30 articles, books, book chapters, and encylopedia entries. Most recently he published “Capacitating Civic Engagement with Deliberative Democracy Initiatives” in the journal Communication Education. His teaching engagements have occurred at Purdue University, Shanxi University (China), Yale University, Dartmouth College, the State University of New York, and the California State University system, among others. He has often been an invited speaker, served on City Council committees and Boards of Directors, and has provided communication consulting for a diverse range of clients in the public, non-profit, and private sectors.
